The Sanctuary for Yuri and Yaoi
SORRY FOR THE LATE POSTING, STAYING AT HOME DID NOT REALLY PUT ME IN THE RIGHT PLACE TO WRITE ANYTHING GOOD FOR Y’ALL. HOPE YOU’LL FORGIVE ME WITH THIS ONE.
Hello everyone, hope you are having an amazing day despite the current situation that has been striking the whole world right now. Knowing how stressful it can be to stay at home all day, going through the same routine day after day.
I wanted to offer you a small article that will spice up your day and kill the horrible monotonous routine.
So, I had this special gift for you today. A few weeks ago I published a Yuri MMV on my YouTube Channel, it took me quite some time to figure out which Yuri-music I should work with, but I finally came up with the music and the perfect Yuri to bring the magic to life.
Actually, after doing some digging for quite a while, I finally saw this manhwa in the back end of my Yuri list, you know what I am talking about, that dark forgotten list with manhwa’s that you finished a LONG time ago and you forgot their existence with time.😅
In that same list, I found the incredible Yuri manhwa that helped me bring up to you an amazing Yuri MMV. Okay let me stop turning around the bush, I’m teasing but I know you already know what I’m talking about.
So, what was it?
The Love Doctor WAS and IS one of the most amazing manhwas I’ve read in my entire life, it strikes by its story, its art and its originality. I did a previous article on this Yuri back in 2017, but to say the truth it was way too short and not detailed enough to really impact the amazedness of this masterpiece…
I would even like to say that I wasn’t mature enough to scratch even the top of how much more this manhwa could offer…
Hopefully, recently I had the opportunity to go an reread this piece of art again and go through and through lots of nostalgic feelings of the good old days, where everything was nice and where no pandemic were there to ruin your day.
Nonetheless, I have to join my previous self on one point, The Love Doctor can indeed be summarized into one word, AMAZING. And it’s not just me who is saying that you, my friend and thousands of others are feeling the same thing towards this manhwa.
But why?
We all remember the excitement, the thrill after reading the first 3 chapters, the passion and devotion we had for the plot, the attachment towards the characters throughout the series, the pain we felt when our protagonists were going through hardships, the frustration they were going through etc…
All those feelings and so many more were transferred to us. At least that’s what I felt when I went back through those fabulous pages years later. I wasn’t expecting to go through such a roller coaster and hell I liked it.
But why is the Love Doctor so interesting?
Why do we feel so much touch by such a little story?
Coming back on numerous of memories, especially the iconic couple E-rae and Cha-Yoon without forgetting my other favourite toxic while exciting one, Yuji and Unjung. All these people made The Love Doctor what it is today.
But we are not talking about superstars or actors who wrote a biography of their life, no, actually we are talking about fictional characters with specific personalities, who manage to ignite something fresh and blooming in us.
Let me bring you back to the time where we were all naïve to the world and we decided to reach to a new manhwa that just popped out of nowhere on our news feed, with it’s weird story about a college teenage girl who never experience love in her life and because of that decided to reach out for professional help in the “love industry”…
In this story there’s this one girl that inspires me, watching her adventure taught me so much more about life than I would have ever have imagine. E-rae was presented as a lost cold blooded queen with no idea what real affection was about.
Nowadays, she would surely be described as a bitch, a superficial girl that doesn’t care about others. Obviously, the truth is more twisted than that, we need a little flashback here to understand things more deeply;
E-rae childhood was filled with busy parents that had a lot of expectation for her.
So much to a point where they chose the act of no reward instead of complimenting the accomplishments of their daughter each and every step ahead. I know what I might say can sound a little bit cliché, but facts are facts…
The way you treat your kids and show your love to them WILL affect them later on in life. E-rae is NOT the representation of child abuse or child neglect, she was surrounded by people who loved her, who cared for her and looked upon her future to be one of the best…
But all those noble actions doesn’t replace the decision they made when they step themselves out of projecting any emotional affection to their child. I don’t blame them, they taught they were doing the right thing, although, we know that it’s not because you think you are doing the best that you actually are.
On the other side, we have Cha-yoon. She had a sweet and loving home, with siblings and parents that were fully present in her life. Even though we don’t see them that much, you can sense through her whole story that she had a wonderful childhood.
But she lacks one thing, TRUST. After that tragic accident that happened to her at her ballet school, she never trusted anyone and for her, love is synonym to pain and hurt.
Although, she was hurt in the past. She found her salvation in Erae-si. Leading to some unforgettable memories and courage in her life. I will not say too much on her behave because I want to concentrate on Erae and I also want you to go read this manhwa afterwards.😉
Erae is literally what every parent will dream of, she’s good at school and literally everything that involves basic logical understanding. Which can be overwhelming and even scary for some people.
But despite all those great accomplishments and good grades, she struggles to understand one of the main fuel of Humans, LOVE.
I remember when I was young, I couldn’t find my way in those romantic stories of princess and prince, where they could fall in love and end up together with a perfect ending filled with happy ever after…
I found it somehow strange that you had to wait the entire time for some unknown stranger to come in your life and without specific explanation, you tend to fall for them and end up dating them for the rest of your life…
Why are you suppose to pause your feelings and choices in life just to wait for one unknown character to somehow make your heartbeat? Are we suppose to just date until we find the one and only that will tell us “I love you” for the rest of our lives?
So many questions where running through my head during that time. Why is love so necessary? And if it is, why do I absolutely need to find it?
I felt so much like a stranger back then, of course, I had crushes, but they weren’t really significant enough to make my heart go dum.
So, discovering The love doctor and watching Erae going through a somehow similar story was reassuring. I wasn’t alone anymore, in some sense I wasn’t weird anymore. The narration of her life makes the story so real, that it's fascinating.
The love doctor was the first story that I have read that explore the option of not knowing what exactly you like. Despite Erae going out with boys, she couldn’t understand the pleasure and excitement of those who were in a similar relationship to her.
When she first met the doctor she told her that she didn’t hate guys, but also that she didn’t feel excited to go out with them. And that for me was the starting point for me loving this show and diving right into it until its end.
For her she was weird and she strongly felt unhappy about it. That’s why when the doctor told her that she was a weird one. She felt happy and reassured. On one hand, you can understand her, get in her shoes and get the fact of why she was happy…
All around people were falling in love with lots and lots of guys, everyone except her. So, I also understand that hearing those words for someone who is supposed to be an expert can be reassuring.
But again, it shouldn’t have been the case. Following on with the story, we understood that the doctor shouldn’t have had that reaction in the first place, even the response following Erae concern was not to be made.
Nonetheless, Erae learns through all the time she spent with the doctor (Cha-yoon for those who are lost), the reason why she isn’t interested in guys is that she always liked girls or at least she likes Cha-yoon. o(^▽^)o
She made me realise that is not because you struggle for so long to actually understand why you don’t like guys or why your relationship ends in scrabbles that it makes you an unworthy person or something…
That there’s actually a great chance that you are maybe looking in the wrong direction or probably didn’t consider other options as valuable.
This answer has definitely been a life-changing for me who is style figuring out what is there for me in the outside world. Thanks to Erae thousands of other fellas can go on with their day feeling less weird to not fall in love with the first stranger.
I know that nowadays, finding a partner is as easy as swiping left and right on Tinder. But finding a real connexion with someone, taking time to discover every part of them and letting us the chance to feel love for friendship before the love for a potential romantic partner is something that we should all thing through each day.
Well, that was it for me today, I hope you enjoyed this short moment together. Erae-si thought us a lot of things today and I truly wish you will remember them. Hope to see you for another discovery next Saturday.
Stay safe
Peace and Love
